Originally, these letters may have been part of an
inscription set into stone. Such circumstances are
mentioned in the Old Testament (Job 19:23-24)
where it says: "Oh that my words were now
written! Oh that they were printed in a book.
That they were graven with an iron pen and lead
in the rock forever". We feel the eternal power of
the written word in these tantalizing fragments,
even though the message can no longer be
deciphered.
